How does the parent/pupil research opt-out work?

Parents can ask for their child's class not to be included in research.

How it works

  1. A parent contacts the school to opt their child's class out of research.
  2. The school tells you which class(es) - if any - have an opt-out.
  3. Each time you record that class, select the research opt-out box. This prevents the transcript from that recording being used for research.

What you need to do

If your induction tutor or school tells you a class has a research opt-out, select the opt-out box every time you record that class – it needs to be selected each time;, it doesn't carry over from a previous recording.

        Good to know

Research opt-outs don't stop you recording that class to support your ECT’s professional development. You can still record and use it as normal to model effective practice – the research opt-out only affects whether transcripts from that class can be used for research.
