How will the recordings be used for research?

Using lesson recordings for research is separate from mentoring and optional.

  • Videos are used for your development and mentoring only
  • Research uses written transcripts from recordings, not the video or audio

Each time you record, you can choose not to allow the transcript to be used for research. If you opt out, you can still use the recording fully for reflection and mentoring.

You can find out more about the research here.

    Pupil research opt‑outs

    • Parents are told that lessons may be recorded and can opt their child’s class out of research use
    • Induction tutors will tell you if any of your classes have pupil opt‑outs
    • If a class is opted out, you can still record lessons - the transcript just won’t be used for research
    • You simply select the opt‑out option when you start a recording

How privacy is protected in research

          • Researchers only work with protected transcript data, not recordings
          • Names and identifying details are removed from transcripts
          • No individual teacher or pupil will be identified in any outputs

Please read the Information Sheet and Privacy Notice for more details.
