How do I complete a self-reflection in the Great Teaching Toolkit?

The self-reflection tool in the Great Teaching Toolkit allows a teacher to assess their confidence in different aspects of a particular element or dimension. The surveys take just a few minutes to complete and are completely private to the teacher’s account unless they choose to share their results. Teachers will be prompted to complete a self-reflection at the beginning of a development cycle. Alternatively, they can be accessed through ‘My feedback tools’.

  1. Head to the ‘My feedback tools’ section of the platform, and select ‘Reflection tools’ under ‘Self-reflection and peer surveys’.

  2. Under ‘Start a new self-reflection survey’, select your chosen dimension or elementand then click ‘Begin reflection’.

  3. You’ll be asked to respond to a series of statements about your practice, indicating how strongly you agree or disagree. You don’t need to answer all at once – you can pause and resume later. You’ll be able to see your surveys ‘in progress’ and resume from where you got to.
  4. Once you have answered all questions and clicked ‘Finish Assessment’, your self-reflection survey results will appear under ‘Completed surveys’.  Here you can view an interactive bar chart displaying your results. You also have the option to download a pdf of the results.

If you have completed the self- assessment before, you will have the option to view results from different dates on the same graph by selecting the boxes under ‘self-reflection’. If have a corresponding peer survey, then you will also be able to tick the ‘show peer feedback’ box, which will then display your colleague’s responses side by side for ease of comparison.
