How should we deliver the Foundation Course in our school or college?

The GTT Foundation Course is designed to provide teachers with a solid grounding in how the Toolkit works and to introduce key underlying concepts. If you're a Coordinator, there are a couple of different ways you can roll it out in your school.

By visiting the “Courses” section of the platform, you’ll be taken to a link in a new tab, where you can access the suite of courses included in the GTT. (We will add to these over time, and we’ll keep you posted with any updates!)

When you access the Foundation Course, you will see that it's split into two sections.

  • Section 1 includes videos, activities, retrieval questions and discussion points which introduce the Great Teaching Toolkit, and create a common language with colleagues using it. We recommend you either work through this in a whole-staff / group inset or twilight session if you can, or give your team access to work through it on their own devices. There are discussion boards within this section, so if your staff work through it individually, they can still discuss with colleagues and other GTT users at the relevant points.
  • Section 2 goes on to introduce many of the concepts within the science of learning which will underpin the other courses in the GTT and will be key to their professional learning. It should take three to four weeks for staff to work through, and this is probably best done in dedicated CPD time but on their own devices, once they have access.
